Lower Blood Sugar and Blast Carbs with Happy Hoe-Downs!

Whenever I talk about this move I usually don’t call it by it’s name until after I’ve explained a bit about it.  That’s because I want them to hear that it can burn carbs, lower blood sugar, get their heart-rate up and move the junk around before they lose me with the name.

Yep–Hoe Downs.  The wonderful move that Teresa Tapp created as part of her T-Tapp Workout.

I love them.

They’re great any time of the day.  Perfect to do after a big meal and you feel sluggish.  Great pick me up after 3pm when you want to fall asleep at work.  You can do them anywhere too.  If you have blood sugar issues this is great to get your blood sugar down after a meal.  If you know anyone who is diabetic or has pre-diabetes let them know!  Oh yeah and they’re great for left/right brain challenge as well.  So much from a little move.

Here’s a little play list of how to do them and a few awesome ones that are done to music.

Try them!  Let me know what you think.

Join me on Facebook and I’ll show you a few more!

A special message to all the busy moms out there

Hi to my fellow busy moms!

I know it’s been a while since I’ve written something other than sharing a recipe but I feel inspired and I want to also send along warm wishes to all the moms who cross my path for a wonderful Mother’s Day.  I’ve also got a treat for you so read on!

As moms, caregivers, mothers, aunts, grandmas etc., we often put everyone else first.  I did this for many years and still do on many levels.  What took me a long time to get used to was to take time out for ME to take care of ME.  My kids were small, I was overweight and miserable and I didn’t want to leave my house much less put on a bathing suit and frolic with my kids in the water.  I ached and I felt old.  Every day it was the same hustle and bustle:

  • rush around getting everyone sorted out
  • making sure there was dinner planned
  • making sure homework got done
  • double checking that no one would leave the house with messy clothing ((gasp))
  •  keeping everything running
  • cleaning up

And after all that was done there was the usual plop onto the couch and a treat because I’d had a rough day.  I deserved it and I needed that reward.  If you’d ask me back then I’d probably come up with excuses as to why I weighed over 200lbs (although I probably didn’t know how much I weighed) and they made perfect sense to me.

Then I got fed up…are you fed up? (Well, hopefully not fed up with this post but I mean are you tired of being sick and tired?) I had to buy an outfit for my company Christmas party and nothing looked good.  I still hate the picture of me in that outfit.  I decided to make a change.  It started with changing how I was eating.  It start with Eat to Live.  That added some planning and time in the kitchen to cook my meals along with my family’s meals but it was worth it and I’m pretty good at multi-tasking in the kitchen.  Maybe less couch time too.

Things went well and I felt better.  But when it came time to devote to exercise it was harder.  I needed to carve out some real time to get it done.  Luckily I found T-Tapp and if I was really busy I could commit to just 15 minutes.  Sometimes it was hard to be able to focus and not be interrupted but it was a decision to put myself first and at times it felt selfish…but we deserve it and we need it!

After many years and a great deal of transformation I’m still a work in progress and I think we all are until the day we take our last breath.  But you know what…I’m so happy when I am able to help someone else break out of their rut and I love it when I hear busy moms tell me how great they feel or how well things are going with the exercise or eating plan even though it feels like everything else is going crazy around them.

As moms we will always deal with the worries and the duties that never seem to end but I know for a fact that when we take the time to put ourselves first even if it’s only for 15 minutes each day our family benefits.

This Mother’s Day I’ll be busy most of the day at a show and my biggest wish is to offer some hope and encouragement to some moms I will have the pleasure of meeting and chatting with.  I won’t see my boys until later in the evening but I know it will all be worth it in the end.

As a special gift to all the busy moms that cross my path tomorrow and those who read this blog post I’d like to extend these special offers to you as a thank you for following/liking/reading anything I put out there.  I would love to help you get your transformation started and help you with your weight loss or exercise goals.

A big high five to all the busy moms out there!! Have a fabulous Mother’s Day…lots of love from me to you! Enjoy the special offers too!

Don’t Fret Slow Loser – Part 2

A month ago I posted some advice and tips on what to look for that isn’t working in your plan to lose weight. This time I want to focus on your attitude and your thinking.

In addition to doing the right things, I want to you take a look at what’s rolling around in your head.

- Are you convinced that this is a quick fix and that you just have to grin and bear it while you reach your weight loss goal then celebrate the smaller you with a celebratory meal? If you’re just focusing on fast results and aren’t focusing on your overall health and wellbeing maybe it’s a bigger let down when the scale doesn’t move fast enough. I’d like to suggest that you focus on a plan that will sustain rather than hinder your health. Is this something you could do for the rest of your life? When you are eating a clean, nutritarian diet you’re getting so much more out of it than just weight loss. Your health will improve, your weight will drop and you’ll feel great too.

- Do you trust your body? I know that sounds odd, but are you fighting your body every step of the way? Are you mad at your body for betraying you and are you pushing it too hard? How about you promise to provide your body with the healthy food and movement it needs and trust that your body will turn on it’s natural healing ability and shed the unnecessary fat?

- Are you competing against someone or doing this to prove something to someone? That is a negative mindset and I’m not convinced it will give you the boost you need to remain consistent and in the right frame of mind when faced with a challenge. Why are you doing this? Make a list of the positives reasons why you are doing this and post it in a visible area. Refer to it so you can remind yourself.

- Are you putting yourself first? Are you feeling guilty about taking the extra time for yourself to step away from your family or duties to exercise and plan your meals? Are your workouts happening haphazardly when you find the time or are you making time for them?

- Where is your support system? Are your friends and family available for you to talk to? Do you have a workout buddy that you can check in with each day or week to keep each other on track? Is your family bringing food into the house that sabotages your efforts?

- Do you love yourself? Don’t wait until you’re smaller or firmer to love yourself. You need to love yourself now before you are able to take good care of yourself. Do you get that? How can you become healthier and better if you hate yourself. What kind of care will you provide for yourself if you can’t embrace where you are now? OWN IT. Don’t hate yourself. Forgive yourself for your past mistakes and for whatever shape you’re in now and move forward.

- Do you think losing weight is hard and near impossible? If you believe it you will receive it. Why not do some work on changing that mindset? Look at the overall downward trend and the progress rather than the weekly number.

That’s it. I’m sure there are a lot more things that float through your mind and make this process seem so much harder but I’d like you to examine where your head is in this game and tweaking some of the negative thoughts that pop into your head.

This is a journey and you’ll get there one step at a time. Enjoy the journey and see it as a way to love yourself and let the magic happen.

I’d love to know what is on your mind. Send me a message!!
