Often times people ask me if my whole family eats like me. That’s a big no. It can be interesting at times.
We have days where they’ve wanted to adopt healthier eating habits and eat like mommy but it doesn’t last long. We’ve got different preferences however we don’t cater dinner to each one…some days one person isn’t too happy about the meal option but no one said this was a restaurant.
It’s actually quite challenging to encourage great eating habits without being too preachy. We don’t have junk in the house so that’s a good start but since I get home later than the average dinner time, over the years my husband has morphed into the role of the chef and they eat even before i get home most nights.
If he’s busy then fast food enters the picture…and that’s when mommy isn’t too happy. But we try. We don’t have juices or snacky things available and we’ll often encourage fruit as a snack. Each dinner has vegetables and everyone is expected to eat them. I can’t remember the last time chicken nuggets or hot dogs were in our house.
Now that my boys are in high school they’ve taken more interest in feeding their bodies better and exercising more.
